These guidelines are to provide you, the advertiser, with information on the type of ad content that is allowed on OfferUp Local Advertising. The following content is either prohibited or requires our written permission prior to launching with OfferUp Local Advertising.
When advertisers submit an ad to OfferUp for publication, the ad is reviewed against these policies. OfferUp will determine whether the ad content meets these advertising guidelines in its sole discretion and will deny or remove any ad it considers inconsistent with these guidelines.
If OfferUp allows a certain type of ad, that does not mean other similar ad content is permitted. OfferUp reserves the right to revise this policy at any time and retains broad discretion regarding how these guidelines are applied. The following content is either prohibited or requires OfferUp’s written permission prior to launching with OfferUp Local Advertising.
Illegal or Regulated Content
- Any content that is, or creates a high risk for, illegal or fraudulent activities, products, or services
- Ads that discriminate or encourage discrimination based on personal attributes
- Counterfeit or replica goods
- An ad that threatens or has any risk of infringing the rights of a third-party’s intellectual property rights (whether trademark, copyright, rights of publicity or any other)
- Ads that include content or images that contain third party content where the appropriate legal clearance hasn’t been obtained
- Any tobacco, cannabis, alcohol, drugs, or paraphernalia content
Controversial or Questionable Topics
- Content that is offensive, crude, sensitive, or inappropriate
- Content that exploits crises, political or social issues
- Political content whatsoever (including ballot initiatives or candidate advocacy)
- Content related to religious or social issues
- Vaccine related content (COVID or otherwise)
- Content that promotes malware or spyware products
- Content that OfferUp considers to be inconsistent with its brand or editorial standards
- Content that makes a false or misleading claim
- Content that has any public relations or moral risk
- Content that is ambiguous or unclear
- Content that reduces or threatens the overall trust and safety of OfferUp
- Ads for products or services that may have state specific advertising licensing requirements
- An ad that includes a product or service comparison
Weapons (including, but not limited to)
- Content related to guns, knives, weapons, or ammunition
- Explosives or fireworks
Adult Content (including, but not limited to)
- Content containing sexual or suggestive content or activities
- Sensational, profane, inflammatory, or violent content
Health Topics (including, but not limited to)
- Online pharmacies, prescriptions, or other regulated medicines
- Content related to body modifications, sexual health, or family planning services
Targets minors
- Content that promotes products or services that are inappropriate, illegal, or unsafe, or that exploit, mislead, or exert undue pressure on minors
In addition, there are certain types of ad content that may be subject to additional review and approval prior to publication. Some examples of the type of ad content that falls into this category are listed below. During this review period, your ad will be placed “On Hold”. If your ad is not approved, we’ll reach out to you and provide information on how to resolve the issue.
- Financial services and other related content
- Breweries and wineries
- Relationship or dating sites or apps
- Event ticket services
- Insurance related services
- Third party consumer technology support
- Pharmacies (that have a brick and mortar location)
- Social networks, online gaming, and online community services
- Signed memorabilia companies
